Have you tried the Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10? If have installed the lates release of Ubuntu, You should try Ubuntu Tweak. Ubuntu Tweak is an application designed to config Ubuntu easier, no need to use terminal. Everything is user friendly because all configuration has GUI. It provided many usefull desktop and system options that the default desktop environment isn’t provided. At present, It is only designed for Ubuntu GNOME Desktop.
I have tried this tool on my ubuntu, and I like it. I can configure my ubuntu easier.
