Komodo Island is the New 7 Wonders of the World, yeah, this island is truly a wonder of the world. Because this island is an island with ancient ecosystem that still exist until now. Komodo Island is located between the islands of Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Komodo Island includes three major islands, namely Komodo, Rinca, and Padar, as well as many smaller ones, with a total area of 1817 square kilometers (603 square kilometers of land). Komodo Island has a National Park which was established in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon. Then, it is also intended to protect other species, including marine animals. These islands originated from volcanic processes.

In the Park there are various types of protected animals. There are 277 species, most of these animals is a blend of Asia and Australia. The animals consisted of 32 species of mammals, 128 species of birds and 37 species of reptiles. Until now, perhaps animal species found on Komodo Island has increased or decreased.

About Komodo Island History

Komodo Island discovered in 1910 by a Dutch man who was then colonized Indonesia. Dutch troops were led by Steyn van Hens Broek. At that Steyn van Hens Broek wanted to prove to a report from troops who say they have encountered an animal resembling a dragon. Then Steyn van Hens Broek killed a komodo dragon for research in Bogor.

About Komodo

Komodo is an ancient animal that still exist till today, Komodo Island is the original habitat of this animal. If you find the komodo at the zoo in your town, then it’s only taken from the Komodo Island. Komodo has a scientific name Varanus komodoensis and Komodo island natives call it the “Ora”.

Komodo is the world’s largest lizard, komodo has an average length of 2-3 meters. Komodo largest ever found in 3.13 meters in length and 166 kg in weight. Because there are no carnivorous mammals other than the komodo, the komodo became a top predator and dominate the ecosystem. Komodo has a mouth filled with deadly bacteria, if the komodo bite their prey have been exposed, then surely its prey will die. Komodo has poor eyesight, especially at night. But komodo has an excellent sense of smell, the komodo can detect the presence of carcasses as far as 9.5 km. Wow! Komodo can run with a speed of 20 km/h and dive to a depth of 4.5 meters.

Komodo Island Now

Komodo Island when threatened will be removed from the nominations of New7Wonders. As an Indonesian citizen, am I disappointed with this thing? Not at all, yes, I am not disappointed. Because the Komodo Island has been famous since long time ago, and I think people all over the world know that Komodo Island is a wonder of the world. Recognition as an independent foundation like New7Wonders will not affect you so much for Komodo. So Island, visit the Komodo Island. Komodo Island is the NEW 7 Wonders of  The World.
